Believe it or not my wife & I have been vegetarians for 30 years. Not even chiken or fish, but in our retirement we decided to try new things. We bought a 40" MES at Sam's club & with the help of SMF we have sucessfully smoked spare ribs, babybacks, turkey breast, ABT's, and our favorite corned beef brisket ( Thanks "Dude Abidies" ). The help we have received from the folks on this site has been incredible. The rubs, the sauces, the recipes for cole slaw and baked beans all have been the best we could imagine. We just went to a pot luck & took the cole slaw recipe that Irishteabear posted, & like she said it dissapeared quickly. We can't thank all of you experienced smokers enough for sharing your knowledge with us newbies. It would have taken years of trial & error to get where we are in just a few weeks.

Welcome, Glad to have you with us. This is the place to learn, lots of good info and helpful friendly members.

Be sure to check out Jeff's 5Day Smoking Basics eCourse, you can find it here it's "FREE"...5 Day e Course

Everyone here like seeing the qview so be sure to post plenty.

You're welcome. That's what we're all here for. I surley could not have helped you the way I did had it not been for people like erain, RonP, Bmudd, Rivet, FireItUp, cowgirl, chisoxjim, ALX, grothe, and the list goes on and on (really I'd like to name EVERYONE), who helped me with getting my pastrami to the point where I love it as much as I do.

Now it's on you to help the others by sharing what you've learned. That is how and why this site prospers and keeps gaining new members such as yourself.

But mostly I'm glad this lifestyle change is working out for you and your wife and that the "hobby" of smoking meat is something you like and are having success with.

Peace, Love and Pastrami,
The Dude Abides

First off welcome to SMF. You'll like it here cause like you know there are some reaaly good people here. Now I'm up north of you in Jacksonville but did spend a couple of months in Lake Whales I could see why you were vegetarians thers not alot of good eats there. Don't take it wrong theres always good places to eat we just never found them. Especially BBQ is not to be had not like your about to learn how to here in a short time. So happy smoking
look here guys and girls we can convert some of them.

That's cool Al! Also cool to see some people are still members from back then! And you and Judy have done a great job of passing your knowledge along to others...Thank You!

Ryan

I love this old thread. And, I love a good ribbing (pun intended) about vegetarians. However, incorporating more fully vegetarian meals into my diet has changed everything for me. No more high blood pressure, no more cholesterol issues, etc. I’ve not felt this great in decades and to have my doctor tell me my low heart rate is in “athlete territory” blows me away. I obviously still love my smoked protein but I’ve learned and benefitted enormously from the meat to veggie pendulum swing.

I’ve also benefited from your kindness, experience and remote mentoring in this little hobby of ours. It has helped me to savor those smoked morsels I still enjoy. Thanks, Al.
