So the title says it all, how do you season the UDS.

hear is what I have read.....

1. coat all the insides with cooking oil, or spray oil (Pam)

2. fill the basket with charcoal and some wood chunks and let it smoke.

it this all there is to it?  should I leave all the air vents(top and bottom) open?  Can I cook anything while I am seasoning it?   Any other tips or tricks?

and for you cold weather folks......do you use it year around?  how cold before you put it away?

I smoke year round. As for your burn everything open all the way to get the high heat needed .To cleanse the barrel and add the oil once the fire has died down to seal it like a skillet.I would not cook in it if it's your first burn residues and all.

That is all there is to it. If you use a spray wait a few minutes for the aerosolized spray to settle unless you are unhappy with your eyebrows. Don't cook anything on it. I no longer live in the great white north but if I still did I would use my UDS year round. It is very efficient and should have no problem maintaining temp.

well I have done the big burn out, now I just have a little spot areas to sand, and then paint. then it is time for seasoning
