I need some more varieties for sizes and lengths of sausage tubes for my grinder. My grinder is the Waring MG800 and it came with a Large and Small tube. They pretty much work for most things but I want a better small one and a longer small one (maybe 3/8" long tube for snack sticks, etc).

Does anyone have this grinder that purchased some other tubes?

Most grinders seem to have a "#" associated with them but I can't find anything about the MG800.

I wasn't sure if most tubes are standard and universal.

Does anyone have any insight on plastic vs metal?

Thank you!

Here's the measurements if that will help:

Have you tried Bass  Pro Shop? They have lots of tubes

I am going to ask them to delete the other post for you

You might try Midwestern Research. They have a large selection of tubes, plate, and knives. In an old paper catalog I have from them it has a page that you place the tube on, and it has different sized tings to tell you the number of the grinder you have. The same for plates ect. They also have all sorts of sausage making supplies.

I'm not sure a grinder will produce enough pressure to force the meat thru a 3/8" hole and fill a casing....  The design of the screw to force the meat thru everything has too much gap to build pressure...

Just my opinion and no facts to back it up....

Someone else will come along and say their grinder works just fine for sticks.....   Dave

I never thought of that. Maybe there is a reason it only came with a 'Large' & 'Small'. It seems to be powerful enough but I haven't tried anything smaller than the 1/2'' and the meat comes out of that pretty fast.

I'll keep looking around to try to find out what size my grinder is and if there are any tubes available for it.  Thanks

I recommend that you run over to Northern Tools and get you a stuffer. There' only maybe 100.00 for a good 5lb stuffer. Heck I even think that they might be around 79.00 maybe.

What does everyone recommend for a stuffer around $150 ?  It is kind of a pain to keep pushing meat through the grinder with one hand and using the other to keep the casing stuffed properly but not a huge deal..

Hey Guy,

Here ya go, to find out what # your plate is just measure the diameter:

#5 - 2 1/8"

#8 - 2 1/2"

#10 / #12 - 2 3/4"

#20 / #22 - 3 1/4"

#32 - 3 7/8"

I would suggest rather than buying a smaller tube for snack sticks (plus the hassle of using a grinder and buying the casings) to consider a Jerky Gun, works fantastic and comes with multiple tips, here's a link to help you find a good price (I paid around $45 for mine):

I lay some fiberglass window screen on top of my grates so that the sticks don't sag between the bars, after wards just wash them in some hot soapy water for the next time.

I hope that helps.

Another thing, I'm with the others, a dedicated stuffer makes sausage making much more fun.

I have to disagree with the grinder not having enough force to fill a casing. Think about it, the meat and fat chould be chilled to near freezing. Then it is forced through a plate with small holes. The grinder I have came with  kidney shaped holes in a plate for stuffing casings. That is to retain the screw or worm in the proper place in the grinder. The tube fits behind the retaining nut. That being said, I realy love my 5# stuffer I got from Northern Tool. I find haveing a dedicated stuffer to be easier to work with and a lot more control when stuffing. That:s just my 2 cents worth.

I just did snack sticks last weekend with grinder NO GOOD get a stuffer, my grinder is a 3/4hs cabels and just turned into mush, had to pull out of auger and throat, and get my jerky gun, I was trying to put in a 19mm collagen casing no plate just the star plate to keep auger in place, I agree go with a designated stuffer IMO. Steve good luck let us know.
