Hi I am new to smoking and found this forum on the net so I thought I would check it out. I have a small barrel type smoker I got late last year, It’s spring and I’m ready to start it back up. I know there are a lot of differences between smoking and grilling, but right now I don’t know what they are. For instance what temperature should I have for a pork roast, how long is slow & low, and how do I keep wood blocks smoking and not catching on fire. In other words I know zilch right now, so I’m ready to start smoking 101.

Looking forward to reading and cooking up something good, thank you all for your time and for sharing your expertise _/) Glen53

Best thing you can do is use the search box and start reading threads, then begin your journey of experimentation, trial and error.
  3. Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  Many good folks here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  Check out Jeff’s 5 day smoking E-Course ( link below ) that will help you get started.  Couple other good threads to help you get started included.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

I concur with Danny. Take the free five day e course. It's free and it will get you started off on the right foot. Plus you get to eat all your mistakes. Hahaha. Welcome to the forums and keep on smoking. timber
