What size splits work best for even heat the size cooker?i struggled with even temps which why i bought lang firebox side could 40 deg hotter or more than right side.My splits of oak r 14x2 for 120gal reverseflow with oversized firebox so I split them in half still struggling with temps.did notice moisture coming out wood when put in firebox even though been sitting covered and split for 2 years now.should I cut them in half length wise?
  2. sacedbysapp,

I chop saw my firewood to "fist" size before a smoke.  Then I get a roaring fire going with normal (13") splits.

I knock the coals down when my CC gets to about 350*F, spray clean the inside

knocking the temp down to 275*F then start cooking and throw "fist" chunks to maintain temps.

I'm not a lang owner... but most all side fire box smokers are known to be hotter at the fire box end... knowing your temps, use them to your advantage...

My lang 60 runs 20/25 degrees different from end to end,Fire box end will always be hotter.Do as JckDanls 07 suggest ,use it to your advantage. When cooking multiple items, you may need to cook one a little hotter to finish both at the same time.Keep learning your smoker and how to make it work for you and enjoy the many wonderful meals you turn out.
