Looking to get a different smoker what is the better recommended choice Propane or Electric. Thanks, from Illinois

Hello and welcome, there are as many answers to your question as there are types of smokers, each one one has it's good and bad points.

I personally prefer an electric, for the ease of control others will say it doesn't taste as good.

Everyone has their own reasons for what they have and or want.

Many folks on here have more than one or three or five different types.

Hi welcome to the forum.  As to your question, the answer will depend what you think you will be smoking.  I've never used an electric smoker, so I can't speak from personal experience on them.  But when looking for my first smoker, I considered both electric and propane.  I went with propane because I got the impression that they were better at things like ribs and chicken.  But if you want to smoke fish or sausage then electric might be better for you.  Do your research here and elsewhere, and come to your own decision.  Good luck with the search.

I have electric and a pellet I like both for different things. For bacon cheese and sausage I like the electric because I can keep the temps low and I can go hot if I want to. Pellet smoker can't go as low but when I want a wood fired smoke it's great. I had a gas smoker years ago I could not control it as well as I wanted to but that was before I found this site to each his own decide what u want to do on it an pick the one that is right for u. No one smoker will do it all one may be good for one thing but not others that's why most of us have more then one

It depends on what your going to smoke. An electric smoker will do it all. From sausage & bacon to pork butt & brisket. Flavor wise maybe a little better with propane, but not much.
