I have a steel scuba tank that is too small for anything other than a smoke generator. I'm thinking invert it, give it legs (its fricken heavy) cut off the bottom (now the top) and I have a fill area, stuff a grate inside and light from the bottom, then some pipe out the side into the fridge or whatever.

What would you do/how would you build it???

looks like a steel 80...sure it won't pass inspection??!! I love my steel 72 and wouldn't trade it for 5 aluminum 80's!

My guess is an AL80 based on the boot and the body shape... Dont know about how to make a smoker generator... Not what you are referring to anyways...

steel 72 - bad threads so it didnt pass. I work at a scuba store!

Yes, I could buy a smoke daddy but I thought the idea of creating sxomething unique would be more of a conversation piece - kinda like a fridge conversion.

Ebay...no! I'll make a bell out of it instead!

I have two thoughts, a mega mega big kahuna, or the one I like better, is to leave it standing like it is and cut a long door in the side. put a removable grate in it, maybe a ball valve in the very bottom for a draft. You can weld in a pipe with a union to the fridge and use the top threads for another valve to bleed get the draft going and bleed off any excess smoke you may have.

Uh oh, now ya have me thinkin and I am still working.....I think I have an extra NOS bottle around here somewhere.......

ok...so my name is diving related, and I have a scuba tank. If materials and the ability to do it were not a factor...what would you do? I'd really like some ideas here, please. I know enough people to get laser cuts done on this tank... plans?

drawings...

anything?

I dont know if it would work, but heres the suggestion.

Cut a door in the side of it. Maybe 4" high by 6" wide (or 3x5) hinged. Put in a piece of expanded metal in the tank probably 7 inches or so below where the door would be. You could use steel bolts ro elevate the rack a few inches off the bottom. A couple inches below that would be where the ball valve would be. Put a ball valvle on the bottom of the tank. Charcoal and wood chunks in the tank.... maybe wood chips to help make the openings smaller and smolder more...

Then vent it out the hole in the top.
If that doesnt work.... you could have a single burger cooker if you added another rack.
