So I went and did it. I ordered a WSM 18.5" and it should be here next week. I know Weber has made some changes to it (thermometer, larger water pan, bigger door). Are there any worthwhile mods I should be aware of?

I'm sure there will be some good mods that will really help you get the best usage out of your new toy. Sure someone with some good WSM experience will be along eventually to give you some great tips and help.
Congrats, now like Tom Petty said "Waiting is the hardest part"

Not familiar with it. But I am sure some one will add some good info soon.

Congrats on your purchase choice. My smoker was going to be a WSM but alas I strayed and went electric. It was a question of lifestyle situation, not if one was better than the other.

You may already be aware this site offers the best internet info on the WSM.

Besure and give SMF the hot skinny on how your new baby performs.

Congratulations on your new purchase...

Congrats on the new smoker - Lots of good info here

Well I thought it was going to get here next week but I checked UPS tracking and it will be delivered today! Nothing like getting Next Day delivery for the 3 day price. It helps that I live in the Seattle area and it shipped out of Portland. Props to Newegg.com, awesome customer serivce and super fast processing times.

nice... just in time for the weekend.

you should like the WSM, I enjoyed the one I had as a loaner for a couple months.

Congrats on the new friend I'm sure you'll love it.

I know I thought the same thing. Like I said earlier, great customer service and super fast processing time.

I've had mine for a week now and am pleased with initial results. I think Weber makes a great product.

As far as mods go, I haven't looked into any yet. I'm still exploring the possibilities of the unit as it comes from the factory. I think one of the nice things about the WSM is that it works well out of the box. I'm not sure the same can be said of all other units. I'm also sure that as I get more familiar with it, there will be things I can tweak to get better results.

Congrats on that new smoker purchase, you'll enjoy it very soon. It's all good my friend.

The mid section handle mod is really nice and cheap. Just go to home depo or where ever and bring the bolts with you. Find something that fits, and maybe get some longer bolts.

It just makes assembly / moving the unit easier.
