Greetings,
I'm Rich Chilcot from Virginia. I just purchased a BBQ Grillware vertical smoker Lowe's last night for a much discounter price of $98. I happed upon your web site in search of information because I never really smoked anything before with the exception of chicken that I forgot was on the grill.

Thank you for such an informative site.

BTW, Sat. will be the test run.

Welcome to SMF Rich, you'll find a lot of usefull tips and ideas here.
Make sure to season up your smoker per instructions and try not to rush things on your first smoke. Have you given any thoughts as to what your first victim er I mean your first meat is going to be?

Take a moment and sign-up for TulsaJeffs 5-day ecourse on smoking. Alot of good info to be had there.

Enjoy!!

I have signed up for the newsletter and the 5-day course. My first session will either be a butt or some ribs. I have a really good rub mixture that I will share soon. After reading about a fatty, which I was glad that reference wasn't about me, Jimmy Dean may also be sacrificed on the inital offering.

Welcome to SMF Rich,

My first smoke was also a butt, It turned out fantastic. Just keep in mind this is a low and slow process and everything will be great.

Welcome to SMF, might I suggest investing in a couple digital/probe therms. Lets you know what temp you meat is without opening the smoker and loosing heat. Remember Low and Slow, times are only guidelines and it will be done when it's done.(by temp) If you do a butt remember the plateau, DON'T turn up the heat, just be patient and it will come through it with great rewards. Good luck on your first smoke.

Welcome Rich -

Whatever you decide to smoke just keep your temperatures low (225- 250 degrees F) and your smoke light (should be light and a pale blue not heavy and white) and you'll be fine! Low and slow is the way to go! Enjoy!

Welcome Rich, glad you made it here, lots of great folks with lots of great info.
