Greetings all from upstate NY.  I'm about 20 minutes south of Brockville, Ontario- VERY far north. We get about 2 or so months of really nice warm weather.  I'm a music teacher, classically trained trumpet player and active musician.

I have a Chargriller 5050 with SFB that I just got last month.  Have not really used the SFB yet, and this will be my first foray into really doing smoked meats.  I used to use smoker chips on my gas grill, but it's not quite the same. It's been great to get back to charcoal- that's how I was brought up and it's what I used for a long time until life got busy and meals needed to be prepared a bit more quickly.  So, in came the gas.  Since my last charcoal grill, it seems a lot has changed.  It's been a great learning process about the different types of charcoals and the discovery of a chimney starter was a huge revelation for me.

A few other toys I have for the grill: just bought the iGrill2, and have ordered the ambient probe which should be on its way to my front door as I write this!  :)

I'll be doing a few of the mods I've seen on youtube- like the rope gasket- to help prevent smoke leaks.  It does leak smoke quite a bit.

Anyway, looking forward to my first batch of ribs!

Hello and welcome to you.

Glad you decided to hang out here with us.

Can't wait to see some really good tunes played on that smoker.

Enjoy.

Welcome. This site is awesome. I'm also a NNYer - half way between Potsdam and Massena.

Good morning and welcome to the forum, from a  hot and humid day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
