...only because I can't seem to find an answer to this online anywhere (but maybe I'm not using the right keywords).

I'm trying to find a nice brine recipe for turkey.  So far, everything I've seen says that ice is part of the recipe.  However, my car is on the fritz and I can't get anywhere to buy ice this AM.

Is the ice "necessary"?  If so, can I substitute cold water for it, and how much water would I substitute?

I always use cold water never seen a problem. Only used ice when if pan or bucket did not fit in fridge. If there is a reason I hope some one here has the answer. Great group here I am new to it to. GOOD Luck
