I use cheap veggie oil on bigger type smokers and Pam cooking spray on small smokers

A cooking spray works well.

I found generic canola oil sprays for a good price in the grocery store.

If your wiping down with oil, again canola is a good choice.

It has a higher smoke temp.

I used vegetable oil on my Longhorn. Just remember if you have a grease spout on the bottom to put something under it ,I didn't and stained the patio.

I use Grape Seed oil.  I like the fact that it has a higher smoke temp.

I also use Weber Grilling spray oil after each cleaning for the grates and hard to reach spots.  The rest gets rubbed down with the Grape Seed.

Good luck & Smoke ON!

I just used vegetable oil as well.  Just watch the temp.  If you get it too hot, the oil will burn (ie: ignite and actually burn).  At least that is what someone told me once

That is true.  Canola or Vegetable oil have a smoke point of 400 degrees, I doubt you will be getting your smoker that hot.  Olive oil on the other hand smokes at around 325.  So I do not recommend Olive Oil for seasoning nor for high temp cooking as olive oil gets a pungent taste we it is burned or reaches its smoke point.  If you want to be super cautious go with Safflower oil, it has a smoke point of over 500 degrees.

Good Luck & Smoke ON!
