Newbie From Colorado

I'm trying to learn more about smoking meat. I have a Brinkman charcoal smoker which I've had fairly good success with. Problem is, I can't get it hot enough.

I've been looking at the Smoke Vault 24 propane unit. Any suggestions from the pros?

Yes, it was 3 degrees this morning!

This happened when it was a bit warmer out. I was thinking that a propane operated smoker would be easier to keep the temperature up.

keith, welcome. I am another noob as well. I have an electric ECB and it was having trouble maintaining temp on Thurs and it was only 30 deg with a 20 deg wind chill. So, I can't imagine your challenges at much lower temps. I did see one recent thread with pics of windbreaks. I am thinking about what might work for my situation AND what my wife will allow on the deck. Ha Ha

Welcome to smf. Not familiar with the smokevault either but someone will be along to help.I have a gosm gasser that is pretty good at keeping a nice steady temp but then again we do not see single digit numbers here in MD alot. Hopefully never!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wel;come tot he SMF, best smoke site on the net. The Smoke Vault has a great reputation and is used by many members here at the SMF. It's up there along with the GOSM and some others too. Hard to go wrong on that smoker.

Welcome to SMF! If you're wanting to learn there are plenty of people here who are willing to share their experience with you. Just make yourself at home, ask questions and browse around.

If you're trying to smoke when it's windy a windbreak of some kind is a must. Wind seems to just suck the heat away.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll go ahead and get the Smoke Vault. I may have to wait till warmer weather to get out and do some more smoking.
