Welcome to the site, good to have you with us. There are a few different ways to go when it comes to smokers, propane, electric, charcoal and wood. Read as much as you can and ask questions. Did I mention ask questions?

When I joined, I was set on an electric smoker. The simplicity of it really appealed to me, but after I snooped around here and ask more questions, in the end, I went old school and made a wood burning reverse flow. Its a bit more work, and takes a bit more of you time when smoking, but then again thats kind of the appeal of it. Some folks don't or can't devote a half a day to tending a fire every 45 minutes or so, so electric or propane models work for them. Its just a matter of what your comfortable with. So once again, I welcome you to the best site on the net for learning the art of smoking meats and invite you to get involved in the forums as much as you can. Lots of great people here, with lots of know-how who are all willing to help YOU succeed.

You will find a lot of info here on building, seasoning and performance of many different smokers here. If you have questions please ask. People here love to help and will go out of their way to give you as much info as possible.

Then once you get your smoker ready for service, there is a wealth of info of things to cook and how to cook it here too.

Good luck and welcome to SMF.
