Hello all, new person here from Buckeye, Arizona, my name is Karl. I'm completely new to smoking, don't even have a unit yet, but plan to read through here to see if I can gain insight into a good beginner unit.

I've been grilling for a long time, and am an avid outdoors person. Just recently purchased a meat grinder to aid in processing my own wild game, so far have made regular venison hamburgers, chorizo, italian sausage, and breakfast sausage, and would love to smoke some summer sausage or snack treats. Also in reading the wild game section, I'm now very interested in smoking a deer shoulder or rump, but for now I think I'll start out with the easier items to get some learning under my belt.

Bear with me as I go along the learning journey.

FIU, the key to not missing a place (any place) is not to leave. You gotta love a place that can cool off a little and still be 112 degr ees. I think it's supposed to cool way down to 98 for my smoke next Friday. 3 briskets, 3 butts a nd a double batch of beans for work Saturday .

Thanks everyone, just checked out the 5day ecourse, and picked up standing gas grill, figured it would be easier to keep a consitent temperature, as my experience with managing coals is very limited. If I can get good results with this, then I'll migrate to the coals and see where it goes from there.

I'm really enjoying all of the information that is shared on this site, from temps, to rubs, recipes, I can't wait to try some of them out.

Thanks again for the welcome, hope to post something soon.

First off welcome Carl to SMF. You already know how good the place is so I'm glad you came out of the darkness and saw the light. We are always glad to have new people here cause they might just look at things and little differant then we do and that always make for some really differant way to do things. I hope you have the how to's and what if's on the whole Qview thing and if not go here:
and it will show you how to post pictires so we can see what your smoking on and with and what your smoking. So hurry and go get something to smoke.
