So my wife calls and tells me that she has a surpise waiting for me at home...

It could be anything from a new animal...

the last 3 hrs. of work couldn't have gone any slower...

But as I pulled in the driveway there was a familiar looking box sticking out the back of her SUV.  After some assembly, few cold ones and my two little boys helping me lose find the parts, I finally have it assembled.

I made a few mods already that were suggested on this forum!  Thanks everyone for putting good detail into their mods.

Extended the chimney down to grate level.

Sealed the extra hole with high temp silicone

Ordered a few nice thermometers for the charcoal side.

I plan on having a buddy fabricate a baffle from the side smoke box into the main chamber.  I also picked up a thick grate to hold the charcoal.  I may try to find another one since this doesn't have high sides on it.  It may cause me to reload charcoal more often, but it won't be warping anytime soon.

I will post some pics of the mods once they are all complete and there should be some good Q coming off this thing in the near future.

More to come!

WOW nice surprise congrats and

for the wife

Very nice, wish you good smoke!! Enjoy your new toy ! Please include the picture of the extended chimney to grate level, thats new to me and now i'm very interested.
I will take a picture tonight.

Brief Description: Taking a piece of metal flex hose and attaching it to your smoker's chimney and extend it down to grate level.  This causes the smoke to build around your meat better rather than having an easy exit out the top of your smoker.  Smoke will take the path of least resistance.  This causes resistance and better tasting food.

Your wife has great taste! Did you pick that out prior, or did she pick it out herself?

Great looking rig, can't wait to see some smokes off it!

Nice new Smokgriller or something like that. Congratulations

I had seen it everytime we went to Tractor Supply.  I teased her about getting it.  I had intentions of building a smoker out of a 55 gal barrel.  I guess I bugged her enough, and she also reaps the rewards of me cooking!  Win, win if you ask me

flyfishjeep- it's nice to hear that it wasn't just my boy's (when they were little) helping me lose / find the parts when I was putting stuff together. My youngest 'little' boy will be turning 18 this coming Sunday and is 6 ft 5 and still has another growth spurt coming up. You know how hard it is to find size 15 shoes without having to shop the internet?
