Discussion in 'Charcoal Smokers' started by jonesh529, Feb 7, 2012.

  1. Hello everyone i am new to the forum and new to smoking. i have started smoking alost a year ago and i love it and hated that i waited so long, i guess i was scared to try it. i have done ribs and brisket so far and looking foward to doing more. I currently have a Charbroil grill that i use and i am thinking about purchasing or getting a smoker made. i like my grill but i not the biggest fan of using it as a smoker. its not keeping the temp and it could be my fault. what smokers do you all recommend? Lets say 3 different price ranges. $50-100, $100-200 and $200-300. I think i would like a vertical smoker but i dont know what to look for in a smoker. i also would like it to be charcoal. i have attached pics of a grill similar to what i have and a smoker that i think i would like. please assist me.[IMG][IMG]

jonesh529-welcome to the SMF family. That Chargriller will make a nice smoker for you and you can still use is for grilling.  All you need to do is to get the chargriller side fire box (bwteen $59-$89 depending on where you shop) that goes on the end (make sure to remove the football shaped insert on the griller) and a few simple mods and you're good to go.

    Enjoy the Smoke

Would you do us a favor & update your profile info to include your location, then head on over to roll call & introduce yourself so we can give you a real SMF welcome. Thanks!

You didn't do anything incorrectly.  It's just when a new member signs up a lot of us like to give them a nice welcome

regardless of where         Welcome to the Forum!!

If you want a new low end smoker the small Brinkmans with a water pan are the way many of us started  about 50 bucks anywhere.    The next step up is the offset smokers but Dutch gave you the how to on that.    If looking for electric the Master built electrics are pretty nice but there are many opinions about the best.

Welcome, don't hesitate to ask lots of questions
  8. After looking at a few post i found one on modifications to the Char-griller and i might make some of the changes to make it a better smoker
