Just got my new Smokin Tex 1400 Friday. Ran 4 4 hour seasoning sessions then did a bisket and chicken yesterday. Learned that a chicken put out a lot of grease in a vertical position. Overflowed the catch tray. Lots of fun to clean up - thank god for aluminum foil on the bottom.

Welcome aboard.

Yup, chicken fat can be messy. I did some Rotiss chicken in my kettle grill a couple of weeks ago, and forgot to put a pan in the bottom. It was an easy cleanup though. A tiny amount of lighter fluid and a match sure made that chicken fat burn off.

Glad to hear the new smoker arrived. Soiund like you are off and running on a good start....regrdless of the chicken fat. I tinfoiled the bottom of my smoker as well and have not regretted the effort.
