Hello,

I'm new to the site and have just purchased my second smoker and am really excited to try it out! I've been a fan of eating smoked food and bbq for as long as I can remember, then last year at a flea market I stumbled upon a Rival KC smoker that I picked up for $25. I knew going into it that it would not produce exactly what I was looking for, but for $25 how could I pass it up? After a few test runs on cheap meat I tried a small brisket in it and was amazed at how good it came out. Anyone who's seen one of these KC smokers knows that it doesn't have a lot of capacity, (and that it's more roaster than smoker) but it kept me entertained as I smoked ribs and some fish. Mainly though it confirmed that I was going to like smoking meat and not just eating it!

Fast-forward to last week and I'm walking through Lowes and there is a floor model Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker (20070511 as the plate on the back says) marked to $139.95. I looked it over, and according to the instruction book, all is there. I spoke with the guy manning the desk about further discounting the floor model and he asks a manager who agrees to drop it to $100. Knowing a little bit about smokers I did not hesitate when an insulated electric smoker is dangled in front of me for $100, and I snapped it right up!

Now I'm just waiting until the weather is above freezing so I can season the new one and try out some new recipes!

Hello Dr Brian and welcome to SMF - sounds like you got an awesome deal on the MES for sure.

Hello Doc from a fellow Connecti?????........ Connec??????.......... from another guy in Connecticut.  (What the hell are we anyway, Connecticutans?  Wish I was a Mohegan).  Anyway, nice score on the MES.  You are going to love it.  I have the 40 MES, a Traeger Texas Elite that I, too, got at a local flea market for a ridiculous price.  And a new homemade smokehouse that I gave a trial run to last week but haven't smoked meat yet.  Best of luck.
