Hello All,

I have been lurking in this forum for a couple of years now and finally decided to join.  I have had a Brinkman electric smoker for several years and have made some very good smoked meats with it.  I have wanted to upgrade to a better smoker for a couple of years and have been painstakingly scouring these forums (and the web) for advice on which smoker to get.  I have it narrowed down to either the GOSM "Big Block" propane smoker or the Masterbuilt 40" electric smoker with viewing window from Sams Club.  This is where I need some help/advice.  I have been waffling between the two and can't decide.  I like the ease of the MES 40 and will probably also buy an A-Maze-N smoker to go along with it.  I also like the width of the Big Block for laying out racks of ribs.

Any recommedations, advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to posting Qview from whichever smoker I end up with.

Thanks,

Paul

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome to the forum.  I agree with Al on the flavor of a charcoal/wood smoker but I want something that requires less attention.  I am really looking for opinions and pro's/con's between the MES40 and the GOSM Big Block (3605BGD).  I was hoping someone would tell me something that would sway me one way or the other.  Can I use an A-Maze-N smoker in the 3605BGD?  I have seen plenty of threads using one in the MES40 but not the 3605BGD.  Do I need to use and A-Maze-N smoker with the 3605BGD or does it burn wood chunks/chips better than the MES40?

Welcome to SMF - sounds like you are off to a good start. Good luck in your quest for a new smoker

Originally a Bronx boy myself. Welcome to the SMF.....lots of info and opinions on both of those smokers you are thinking about. Here's a link to a superb blog put up by Squib that I had kept when trying to make a decision myself. I have a Master Forge gasser now....next one might be the GOSM...like the big chamber. Hope this helps....

Willie,

Thanks for the link to that blog.  I had found that site already and it was one of the main reasons that I became interested in the GOSM 3605BGD.  How do you like the propane smoker?

So far, so good after a simple mod around the doors to stop heat/smoke loss. Sips propane..just wish it was a little wider. All in all, I'm happy with the propane and with the AMNS for constant TBS it's working out well for me. There are just 2 of us in the house, so I don't really need a huge unit.

Willie,

Thanks for the follow-up.  The more I reasearch I do, the closer I am to ordering the GOSM 3605BGD propane smoker.  But, this could change as more opinions are posted.
