Hi! Greg H in St. Chuck. Used my offset for the first time 2 wks ago. 10 hours on a 7 lb brisket. Wind was major challenge in keeping it at 220 or so. Anyone know where I can buy smoking cooking wood logs chunks etc in the st. charles st. peters o'fallon bridgeton area? Any decent bbq tool shops in this corridor, or is the only one smoke n fire in ballwin? Best place for large briskets for sale?
 
Welcome to the site automaticg, I can't offer much help on the supply of wood, but with my offset I mostly use charcoal with just a small log every so often. It really cuts down on how much wood I have to keep on hand.

I just worked down around Lebanon and St Roberts area, when it was cold out I saw loads of wood every day. I would think if you had the means, maybe check Craig's list for down there and see what you find. They told me they had alot of Ozark Hickory,(never used it myself but they said it was the stuff).

First off welcome Greg to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.

It's also free and it will give you the basics of smoking. So after all of that you just need to go grab something to smoke and if you have any question just post them here and we will answer it quickly so you don't have any mishaps with your smoke.
