I have started a new adventure when I built my UDS. Now I have a 48"X72"X30" (H x W x D) steel box made from 16 gauge steel. I will be making two chambers with a divider in the middle. I am worried that the steel is too thin and lose some heat. However the thickness is the same as my UDS. Should I confine the build or scrap the whole idea?

Hello.  Welcome.  I see this is your first post.  Please take some time and swing over to Roll Call and introduce yourself so that we may give you a proper "Hello".  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  As for your question: You are correct in that heavier steel would be better and you will experience some heat loss which MIGHT cause it to use more fuel but I wouldn't scrap the idea.  "A": you already have the box so build it keeping costs down and use it for as long as it lasts.  Good pait job and care taken and should last quite a while.  "B":  It is a big box.  IF you can spend some money on it, build a box to fit in the existing box leaving 1" all round.  Fill that gap with rockwool insulation.  Either way use good heat resistant paint and after each smoke ( when the smoker is JUST cool enough to hold your bare hand on ) wipe the entire exterior down with veg. oil.  When completely cool wipe off any excess.  This will help your UDS also.  Keep Smokin!
