I've decided to make my first leap into the world of pellet grills but I'm hoping to get some input from experienced pellet heads on what type of grill I should choose.

I'm on a budget so I've narrowed my choices down to two.

  1. Green Mountain Davy Crockett - I love the advanced features of this grill but I'm a bit worried about the size of the grill - Both in cooking area and in height. If I went with this grill, I would utilize a stand or cart to get around the height issue but my other concern remains. But GMG have a great reputation and the technology speaks for itself.

  2. Pit Boss 440D - This unit is actually on sale for $299 for the next couple of weeks at Ace Hardware which makes it an attractive choice to me. The size of the grill solves the cooking area and height issues that I have with the DC but it obviously doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles that the GMG has (wifi, built in temp probe, etc.) that seem handy to have but then again, are not necessary at all.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Well, im a GMG owner. Ive got the Danial boone. While its more $$ than the DC, I use mine every weekend. I thought about the DC, but the size was just too small for my needs.

The pittboss sounds like a good price.

Id check out pelletheads.com for more info on both.

Howdy sillybims, and welcome aboard!

This is only one man's opinion, but there have been plenty of folks with buyer's remorse after they realized they wish they had a bigger smoker.  So, if you're worried about that DC being too small, you should definitely consider going with the bigger Pit Boss...especially if you can get it for that price.  Everyone I know who has purchased a GMG is happy with it, but that DC is pretty small.  If you can't swing the extra dollars to step up a level to a Daniel Boone, then that Pit Boss sounds like a pretty good deal.  I don't personally know much about their build quality, but I've read some pretty positive comments from other members who've purchased them.  And you don't necessarily have to have all the bells and whistles to turn out delicious Que!

Good luck and happy hunting!

Can't help you with the grill decision.

But I see this is your first post, so at your leisure would you swing by Roll Call & introduce yourself.

That way we can all give you a proper welcome.
