we just completed our 2nd BBQ cook off this past weekend. we got 8th in chicken and brisket however our ribs were'nt that good not alot of flavor and they were on the pit for about five hours. any advice from the pros. the rub was the typical onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika etc. then pulled off wrapped in foil applied squeeze butter and brown sugar for another hour or so. still not very good???? any help would be great.

Perfection takes practice. I allways add the brown sugar to my rub instead of later . Imho, The squeeze butter would make the ribs taste greasy . i have used it on chicken ,But pork should not need any more fat.
You may know something that i don't ? Keep working on the rub . Get it right and then perfect you cooking procedure.
