need advice on smoker

Hi. Im new to the smoking side of things but love cooking on the weber. I have decided to buy a smoker but need some advice on the best one to get. I can get a griller delux which is cast iron but is expensive and still need to buy the smoke box or i can get a imitation weber smokey mountain for way cheaper. Just been to the bbq festival in Melbourne and fell in love with low and slow

I am not going to advise you to buy any specific smoker, but want to ponder a bit.
 

First consider your daily life and how tending a cooker for 24 hrs can affect it.

Second consider how much you will be cooking at once.

Third consider your smokers fuel source and how readily available it is.

By taking the time to ponder these few points before buying you will enjoy your pick even more.

Also take time to consider the weather where you live and how it affects your choice.

Sound advice, definitely! You need to do your homework starting with a self-search on just how much involved you want to become.  There are different solutions depending on the answer. Price points are usually a sticking issue for many.  Each piece of equipment has its pros and cons.  Just remember the adage, 'you get what you pay for'. Last piece of advice, those starting with a cheap unit and continue wanting to smoke usually end up spending more $$$ because of upgrading down the road.  Some do it more than once! Nothing wrong with testing the waters first but be aware of the future and plan for it so you hopefully won't wast money.  My situation was probably a bit different. Didn't get interested in smoking until I retired and made the decision to 'buy once, cry once' opting for a top of the line unit with how I wanted to smoke (pellet burner).
