Hi all,
I've finally got around to making a small patio reverse glow smoker.
The chamber in 12.5" diameter and about 22" long.
I've used Feldons calculator and the opening from the firebox is 3.6".
What do you think?

The smaller the RF smoker, the numbers for the FB/CC opening, under the RF plate and end of the RF plate need to be exaggerated...

Feldon's has a problem when it comes to RF smokers... It bases the numbers on the FB..... WRONG.... should be on the CC... and for a RF smoker, the numbers should be multiplied by 1.5.... and for small smokers the numbers should be at least doubled above the 1.5 number....

Sooooo, in short, the FB/CC opening, under the RF plate and at the end of the RF plate should be about 22 sq. inches... and the exhaust stack should be a 3" ID about 24" tall....

Some of the numbers are S.W.A.G.S. from experience....

Hi Dave thanks for the advice and experience you have given.

We have a new member here in the UK, starting out on his first build. Would appreciate it, if you could advise on his build.

Thanks for the advice, I can easily cut out my join and increase it to 5" round which should give me a 20sq" area. My firebox is about 50% bigger than Feldons suggested size.

I too have previously made a pig b que

Hello!  Great to have you back Mate!  Come back more often!  WOW!  This one is wild Mate!  Just thinking of air flow.  I don't know about calculators.  Reverse flow; I assume, so the stack would be to the top left of the orange smoking chamber?  IF I am correct and we all agree hot air rises; I think your opening between the firebox and smoking chamber may need to be "oversized" and the stack the same.  I agree with Dave here.  THEN you add in trying to "suck" heat downhill and then over the top and I think you may have a problem,  Dave is the calculator guru.  I just use what I have learned from experience and the way I see it working in my mind.  In my humble openion this somer is REALLY gonna have to SUCK ( as in air )!  It MAY burn one HECK of a lot of charcoal.

  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

UK.  his as you can guess is seat of your pants building.  You have in the past and are now building and then asking.  OK.  It is your way.  In this case I would say go for it!  What are we looking at?  6" inlet from the firebox?  Please no less than 4".  And I think 4" would be too small.  ^" inlet from the firebox and a 3" stack 30- 34" long with a damper is where I would head,  Just my opinion.  Keep Smokin!

Hi Danny,
I had roughly planned it all out, but it's always better seeing it and then making a judgement.
I used the calculator for this one and my last large one, but some have suggested it doesn't work for small ones, so I thought I better make it up as we go.
Worst case, I have the fun of making a mk2 version!
I probably won't get much more done over the weekend now, so I have the weekend to think about vents.

Thanks for signing it Michael.  I didn't want to use your name without permission.  I think you have something there.  I think it will work.  In my young days I built a few; some worked and some didn't.  If we are looking at a 4"-6" inlet for the firebox it should work.  I HOPE it is 6".  I think that would be better.  4" would be risky in my opinion.  As said; this is seat of your pants building.  I like it.  From what I see it should work!  Just remember it is all about air flow Mate. Feldon's calculator and what ever.  It is all about air flow.  I have seen your work; you are a good welder.  Keep air flow in mind and you GOT THIS!  I want picts of the finished project!!!  GREAT! to hear from you again!  Come round more often Mate!  Keep Smokin!

I did a bit more tonight,
