My new cedar smoke house

  1. It may not be the prettiest thing I've ever built but it worked perfectly for my first smoke house. I built it out of stuff I had lying around and some cedar planks my father in law gave me. Here is a couple of pics

  3. It did work very well, like I said it was my first one. I smoked 35 lbs of venison it for my first smoking and I must pat myself on the back I thought it turned out great for a first time rookie :yahoo:

You did a nice job I was just busting with the remark, show some pics of the meat when you do them. What kind of wood are you smoking with?
  5. I used hickory, it worked just like I was hoping it would but now I want to try to do some with pecan wood. Ever tried that before and if so what's your thoughts on it?

Funny thing I just used Pecan for the first time, before we started getting snowed in. It produces some great taste I used it on chicken.

    Taste is fantastic.
  7. Thanks for that, I will have to try some out here next time I cook chicken. I also heard pecan was good on brisket.

Nice house...I have one made of plywood ugly but it works.  Glad yours works for you.

  12. I love the look of that cedar, nice job. Being from Georgia pecan was abundant. It's by far my favorite all purpose wood but I'm probably a little biased. I don't think you'll regret trying it.
  13. Nice looking build.  Did you find plans, to include dimensions, here in the forum?  I am considering building a smoke house and would like to see the dimensions of  some of the builds here.

  14. Pecan is one of my favorite woods  use it most of the time

Personally I like pecan. <Chuckles> Thats a full 30 gallon container of shells. They work as well as the wood, and they are a renewable resource.

I find that pecan is not a hard smoke like hickory or mesquite nor a soft smoke like fruits and most nuts. It has a nice color also. My chickens, andouille and sausages are really good indicators of the beautiful color to go with that nice taste. If you can obtain shells, try to insure that no nut meat remains, it tends to make a more bitter smoke.

I think once you use it, you'll really like it. Best to have some trees on your property.

Great looking smoke shack! 50/50 pecan/cherry is one of my favorite combos for just about any smoke. Super good on beef.
  17. I looked at a lot of different smoke houses online and on here but at the end of the day I just got in my shop and started building it out of stuff I had lying around. It's not professional built but it works extremely well. I'm sure there are tons of plans and dimensions on here to help you though:grilling_smilie:
  20. Cool looking smoke house, looks like you have a customer at the door
