Mule's Tri Tip score.

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by themule69, Sep 26, 2014.

  1. I went to one of my favorite places to grocery shop today. They had Tri Tip for 2.50 LB. I can't buy burger for that. Anybody want to guess what I will be doing a reverse sear on?

    Happy smoken.

Score, how much did you buy? I'd buy a ton!
  7. [IMG]  I would like a calf. A hawk got 2 of them. So I built them a maxium security chicken coop. I still have 6 more in the house. I need to post a pic of their new house.

    Happy smoken.

  8. About 50# I may go back in the morning. Like I said I can't buy burger for that. I wonder how it would do for jerky?

    Happy smoken.

You can store some in my freezer if needed;). At that price a jerky attempt couldn't hurt! We're looking at a half or quarter cow and it's no where near that per pound.

That price is insane. Best I saw it for was 3.99 and I stocked up at that price.
  11. Does anyone have any tri tip ideas?

  15. I am thinking you are going to get tired of my Qviews on this one.

    Happy smoken.

  16. I wonder how long it would take? I wonder how dry they are making it? I am thinking it would be pretty tough. Give me some idea's and I will give it a try. I am open to any other Tri Tip ideas.

    Happy smoken.

I never get tired of tri tip Q views!

My plan that I want to try is to take two tri tips. Brine one in pop's brine. The other I was going to dry rub cure with #1. As far as the smoking process, I'd say probably super low and super slow. Not sure for how long. Having never seen what their final product looks like I'm not sure.

As for other ideas, I like my tri tip SPOG over cherry and pecan to an IT of 135. Sometimes I'll reverse sear. If I do I pull it at 120 then sear both sides. I really like mine with mashed taters and gravy, fresh green beans. Or tri tip makes the best French dip with JJ's smokey Au Jus.
  18. Hmmmm I may have to cure one and see what happens.
    Happy smoken
  19. Marinate in your favorite teriyaki sauce for 4-6 hours, smoke w/ mesquite for 45 min or so at 225*, place in glass pan cover with FRESH pineapple slices, cover all with foil and finish in oven at 350 until IT of 160, pull from oven and leave foil cover on and rest for 20-30 minutes. Serve with your favorite rice, fresh corn on the cob and a MaiTai [IMG]    JMHO ....
  20. this looks awesome, nice work
