Hello!

Just purchased a Char-Griller 5050 w/ Firebox from the local Lowe's store.

Currently, I am waiting for the kind staff to finish assembling this beautiful BBQ.

I've just moved into my own house last week...got the TV setup...now the grill :)

So, I've signed up for the 5-day e-course because I literally know nothing about smoking.

Any suggestions to getting started or helpful tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks ~ have a great day!

Welcome..

This site has tons of info.

I would suggest you spend some time reading all the different forums and the WIKIs.

Then use the handy dandy search tool for specific interests!!

Have a great day!!!

Thanks Craig!

So far, I have enjoyed reading through the various articles.

Perhaps you could answer a question for me!?

Before I start doing anything with this unit...I should season, correct?

What I have read on the forums...

1) Use a basic cooking oil and wipe it all over the charcoal-side barrel.

2) Light up some charcoal and let it burn for about 3-5 hours w/ no meat.

Does this sound like something I should do to get started?

Thanks!

Either one should work ok.

I put some pork fat chunks in when I seasoned my WSM..

 Hope this helps..

Thanks for the tip!

Should I season the SFB too?

I would look at mod threads .I've read they leak badly but it can be tighten up.

When you say leak...are you referring to air escaping from the barrel?

Thanks for all of the welcomes everyone!
