Ok, I am fairly new to smoking, especially using an electric smoker. I recently purchased a new MES 30" (without the window). I've ordered my AMNPS and waiting on it to arrive. I've already purchased everything for my mailbox modification and have most of it put together. My question is, do you have to make any modifications to the smoker itself in order to make this mailbox mod work? I've looked at several pictures on here and in some it appears there is no heat shield, or metal cover, sitting over the chip tray and heating element as there is in the model I've got. Also, do you take the chip tray completely out while smoking if using the mailbox modification?
Anyway, just wanted to check and any feedback anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. I've included a picture of the heat shield or metal cover I'm talking about.
