Been looking for a good thermo.  Like the Maverick et-732 but am concerned with the feedback about the probes going bad.  Anyone got any other to loo at or is this one the one to get.  thanks

That is the one that most of us use. One of our members sells them and stands behind them.

The thing you have to be careful of is NOT immersing the probe in water to clean it. You can't get any water where the wire goes into the probe. If you do that they will last a long time.

I have never had a probe go bad on any of my units but my buddy had one go bad on his first try but like Al said he emerged the probe in water and it fried. As long as where the probe meets the wires don't get emerged you will be fine.

Not to hijack, but has anyone tried heat shrink wrap on the probe where the wire goes in? I was thinking it might help a little with not only moisture getting in but the wire pulling out as well. Other than the seemingly delicate probes (no problems here yet, but i've been careful) and the plastic "window" over the display on the receiver not being attached upon arrival I've been very happy with mine. A couple dots of epoxy and it's reattached permanently now. One thing I'd like to see in a future generation would be the ability to calibrate the unit. Mine's only a couple degrees off, but it bugs me that I need to live with that. Petty, I know, but I'd like 225˚ to be 225˚, not 223˚.

All in all for the price paid I'd definitely recommend the 732.

Just like anything else, sometimes things fail.

It's a great product and  I have had great success with mine as well as a great customer service experience.

Thanks for all of the insight.  I will be placing my order tonight.  Especially helpful is the clarification on the probe problems, that was my major concern but hearing from you all on how to avoid it I think it will be fine.

The Q probe on mine went bad.  The pit temp probe works great if I keep it clean.

I will soon order another Q probe from Todd and see how it goes.

I love the ET 732 for its range.  Never a problem there.

Good luck and good smoking.
