KBB charcoal

Does age of charcoal have any effect on length of burn time? 

I normally take advantage of sales and stock up. The last two bags I used, probably purchased a year ago or more, seemed to not last as long. 

Am I imagining things or is this possible?

I haven't had any issues with my supply. Have the bags been opened maybe the absorbed some extra moisture from the humidity?

hope not... I still have bags from sales last year even year before (I think) ... haven't been doing any smoking in a while.... when I do it's with the mini so it doesn't use much to begin with ...

Seems if the charcoal had absorbed moisture, it would burn slower and at a lower temperature.

No, they haven't been opened. I just took the plastic wrap off of them Friday. I was also thinking of moisture being a possibility.

I realize there are many variables during a smoke session and it could be just one or more of those variables that made it seem like I had a shorter burn time. Haven't had any issues in the past and this wasn't an issue either, I was just a little surprised to be running out of fuel when I normally would not be at that stage.

I buy in bulk and store for a year plus some times, never noticed a difference.  Burned some KBB yesterday from  April of 2015, everything seemed normal.

I open several bags at a time and store them in plastic tubs(for space savings).

I haven't noticed a difference between the charcoal stored in tubs vs the original packaging.
