My name is Patrick, I'm in Sault Ste Marie, MI, just transferred up here from the suburbs of Detroit, I'm in law enforcement for the government. I bought my first smoker recently, a Masterbuilt 31.9-in 800-Watt Electric Vertical Smoker, I've never smoked anything before owning this. I usually stick with a grill, but the guys I work with all use smokers and rave about them, so I figured, why not, can't hurt. So far the few things I have smoked have been very good, so far only one epic failure, Turkey near Thanksgiving. Looking forward to interacting with everyone and learning all I can when it comes to the craft of smoking.

Welcome Patrick and thank you for your service!

Lots of great folks here with solid ideas for making every smoke come out perfectly.  What's fun though is figuring out what works best for you from all the ideas you'll get.  You'll be giving advice in no time flat!

Enjoy your smoker and hopefully the epic "lessons" will be few and far between.

Welcome and glad you found SMF!

Hello Patrick, welcome to the forum, you will be smoking like a pro in no time. Lots of great people and information on here. Post some pictures of your next smoke.

Hey there Patrick.  I am fairly new here also....but I can tell you that this site has MORE information than my little pea brain can comprehend.  I have spent a few afternoons just surfing around getting ideas...... and would you believe one of the most interesting and outstanding ideas was to cook an aluminum pan full of (my own recipe) Pork n Beans that I let sit in the smoker with Pecan smoke under a nice Pork Loin to catch the drippings.  Never would have even thought about doing that if I had not read it here.

Enjoy..... so far I am having a blast....and as I kinda said above....take some time to look around this entire site.  The search bar is a great tool also !!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the warm welcome, I look forward to getting to know you all and picking your brains on some awesome recipes.

Thanks for the first idea I plan on trying Buck, that sounds really good, so I will probably give that a try this weekend. So far, I am only smoking brats, sirloin steaks and burgers, I tried a turkey around Thanksgiving and that was an epic failure. The directions I got offline destroyed the bird, it was similar to the Christmas vacation turkey, only worse....lol
