  1. Hi All

I just purchased my master built 30 electric smoker. I am excited to start using it. One question I have is how many times during the smoking process should I add wood chips? The manual says I can only add one cup at a time.....How long will one cup of chips last at say 275 degrees? Please let me know your thoughts. What should I do for my first time? I have never smoked anything before......I am a rookie.

    Welcome Dad !!

The answer to your question is "Too many times"!!

You will probably see that if you follow the instructions, and put a cup of chips in, you will have too much smoke for awhile----Then nice smoke for awhile----Then after about 45 minutes, No smoke. This is when you need to put more in.

You can eliminate this problem, by getting a 6" X 8" AMNPS. Fill it, light it properly, and put it in, and get up to 11 hours of perfect smoke, without touching it !!!

Welcome and I would start with ribs or a pork butt as they are both very forgiving.

Glad you joined us VespaDad, :welcome1: from North Dakota!
I agree with the suggestion of the 6" X 8" AMNPS for using with a Masterbuilt electric; it just provides a steady quality smoke and even if you light both ends should only need to be refilled every 4 hours or so if you require more hours of smoke.
