I went from cigarettes to meat. Great Choice.

Hi I'm Marty and I'm live in Southside VA. I put down the Marlboro's last year and couldn't stand it anymore. I had to smoke something. So I bought a King Kooker smoker. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. I've done a some Baby Backs and a Pork shoulder. I wish I'd done this years ago. I didn't realize I could do something that could turn out so good. I'm completely new to this and the 2 sucesses I've had so far I credit this forum. So thank you.

I just bought my first smoker and made my first post a little bit ago. Like you I quit smoking cigarettes 6 weeks ago. I'm 62 and have been smoking since I was 13. I quit when the Dr told me I had a cancerous tumor in my Right lung. I just got out of surgery 4 weeks ago and the Lord was with me because the Dr said they had to remove 40% of my right lung but they checked my entire body and it had not spread anywhere so I don't even need any Chemo although they will do testing every 6 months for several years. Dr said I was one of the luckest he had ever seen because almost always it has spread when they find it and he suggested, with my luck, I go out and buy a loterry ticket.

I have said I won't be one of those past smokers that preach to others and I'm not preaching. I can just guarantee you, smoking a cigarette, darn sure isn't worth what I'm going through and I'm one of the very lucky ones. Congrats on quiting.

Welcome to SMF! I too put down the Camels and bought a smoker. Much rateher smell like a barbecue than an ashtray! This place rocks, dig in and enjoy!

. I mostly quit because of my wifes health problems. I figured she couldn't quit unless I did too. I put them down no problem but I must of made up for it with food, I guess. I've put on quite a bit of weight since then. I'm now trying to give up sodas and all the sugary drinks. I gotta make up for all this great BBQ i'm going to enjoy. I have to agree about the addictiveness. I'm going to do the brisket early in the morning and I'm already thinking about what I'm going to smoke next.
