Went to the Piggly Wiggly where I buy my meat just to just to check out the meat and pick up some JD they had on sale for $1.99. I was looking at the meat and talking to the butcher when I noticed a 14lb packer was mislabeled I called it to his attention and joked I should have took it and run to the cashier. Somebody had put a label over the original label showing 1.4lbs at $1.99 a lb so it was priced at $2.85. The original label was underneath and it was $40.37. The butcher asked me if I wanted it and I said that was a little much for me. He grinned at me and put the bad label back on and said now do you want it, I looked at him in disbelief and said your kidding right. He said no, you found it and were honest about it, it's yours. Well I walk with a cane but I think I ran to checkout[IMG] Forgot to mention they just got the and it has a sell by date of Oct 30th so it's fresh.
Now I have a question, I'm not up to a 20hr smoke so is there a problem with cutting off the flat and doing two separate smokes

Keep that butcher on your visit often list, even if just to say hello. We need more folks like that in this world of some smart ass/rude employees.

You lucky dog!!!! I'm never that lucky. Hell I bet when my ship fianally comes in, I'll be at the airport. If you really don't know what to do with the other chunk of brisket (either point or flat) I'll send you my address.

I should have included the pics in the original post, I guess I was still in shock. Of course when I came home with it and showed to my Wife I had some fun with her and only had the original tag on it, boy was she upset since she thought I had spent that much on a piece of meat since theres just the two of us. I let her rave for a few minutes before I showed her the register receipt. I think she may still be a little mad at me for pullin her chain [IMG]
Funny thing is the cashier never skipped a beat as she bagged a 14lb piece of meat for $2.85

Sir, you are in alot of trouble. To avoid any further action, legal or otherwise, please box that brisket with dry ice and ship it to me immediately, or I will have to report this incident to the NAACP (National Association for the Acquiring of Cow Products).

Please do not hesitate, your future and reputation in the BBQ world are at stake... plus I'm HUNGRY!! [IMG]

I'll second that. I did a 13 lb. brisket and it was done in about 8 hours.

Wow congrats Blackhawk - just goes to show honesty does pay!

I separate my brisket eveytime. I use each piece for different things - flats for pastrami, points for general eatting, hash, pulling and burnt ends.

Gee I haven't checked the Piggly Wiggly in the next county for brisket yet. Looks like another field trip for the quest for fall briskets!

    Hey Blackhawk,
Congrats on a good catch! Also, just a thought, when you get that bad boy all smoked up, why not cut a few slices and take them to your butcher. He may give you a heads up next time something special is coming in.
