Greetings to all. I am a veteran griller but a rookie smoker. I'm only now about to purchase a smoker and i would like to get some opinions if possible.

I would like to purchase a smoker that doubles as a charcoal grill as well. Are these suitable for smoking? I see quite a few out there at places like Lowe's and Walmart for $100+. Any suggestions/opinoins/advice?

Thanks guys!

IMHO, something like a char-griller charcoal grill is what you want. with the available side firebox, it is a smoker too. i was going to buy one of these, but made one myself at work.

Welcome to the SMF csc174! Be sure to check out Jeffs 5 day e-course. It's a great place to start. I myself have a Char-Griller with side firebox. Just might be what you're lookin' for.

The biggest question you have to ask yourself is how much time and attention you want or can give yourself to playing with fire. With the side firebox it does take alot of attention. Check out the Smoking Supplies and Equipment section to get an idea on the different types and techniques used on smokers.
