Greetings fellow smokers!
My name is Geoff. I hail from Atlanta, GA, and I now reside in Berzerkeley (aka Berkeley) CA temporarily until I finish my PhD.
I've been grilling for about 4 years now, but I have no experience as a smoker. I own a barrel charcoal smoker with a side firebox (horizontal) I bought for $20 on CraigsList. It works great for what I've used it for thus far, but I think the time for me to graduate to the more elaborate (and time consuming
) art of smoking my favorite meats.
This weekend, I plan on having friends over to watch football, smoke ribs, and play poker, so I was looking for some pro advice on how to get started. Plus, my experience has been that folks who know how to grill are the best folks, so why not make some friends in the process?
I like pork meats and beef tri tip steak (thank you, west coast), and Carolina-style sauces with red wine vinegar, but I'm open to any and all recommendations. I usually buy my meat at Costco.
Looking forward to hearing from y'all!
