I am almost done with my smoker and I am about to add a few sausage hanging racks. I have some 1x4 oak that I will drill holes in the center and then cut in half to get the hangers. How far apart should I drill my holes so my sausage will have enough room in-between the rods? My rods are solid SS probably 3/8 or 1/2 round.

i am no expert BUT all i know is that you dont want the sausages to touch. smoke cant get into those spots and looks kinda anemic ...  LOL
so pepperoni or meat sticks can be closer together than summer sausage. just make it up so you can be prepared for whatever you are about to make.

GOOD LUCK

Depends on what you are planning on smoking?  Snack sticks will obviously take less space in between than summer sausages or ring type bologna.  I would drill them out approx. 2" apart.  Then you have options of spacing whatever you need to accommodate the sausage type.

I would put them fairly close together - maybe every inch or two.  That doesn't mean you would hang them that close together but it gives you more flexibility on how you could configure things.

You guys are quick!  I started my reply and stopped to stir the spaghetti sauce on the stove.  By the time I got back and posted, I was seven minutes late.
