Looking for suggestions on how many people an average butt (7 lb. bone in) will feed.

I have been asked for pulled pork at family get together over X-mas. The head count is locked on 12 adults.

My plan was to smoke, rest, pull, vacuum seal, freeze and reheat in boiling water while still bagged. Do you guys add any liquid / sauce during vacuum seal before freezing?

I wouldn't think the amount packed into each bag would matter if all of it was going to be used at once.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

1/4 lb servin comes from 1/2 pound raw but, so what I'm sayin is ya figure ta loose 50% durin the smoke. So a 7 pound butt will give ya 3 1/2 lbs a cooked meat or 14 1/4 lb servins give er take a bit. Least ways thats how I figure it fer caterin.

If its family then do 2 butts and send them home with a little present some leftover pulled pork. I figure a 1/2 lb when cooking for family and friends I'm sure I'd drop that to a 1/4 lb if I was doing it for money

I'm with Piney on this too for figurin for friends and family. The more the merrier. People will always want to take some home. Take a look at 1/4 lb of pulled pork, it ain't much. It about makes a sandwich. Some folks will eat less and some will eat more. I like the 1/2 lb a person cushion and no one ever complains about left overs if you are lucky enough to have any.
