How do you use a Maverick ET-73?

I am going to do some ribs sometime this week and want to use my new thermometer to keep an eye on the temps in the smoker. I've try reading the instructions, but the print is so small, it's kind of hard for me to read. I barely managed to read enough to sync the receiver and transmitter.

There is a button on them you can push to sync them. I have trouble getting mine to sync sometimes. What I have found to work the best is to turn on the receiver end (The one without the probes attached to it) then turn the transmitter end with the probes plugged in then it seems to sync up right away.
