Well I just pulled a Homer big time. I was planning on having a nice pulled pork dinner. I estimated the time to be around a 5 hour smoke, pork butt at 2.59lbs x 1.5 (of course I gave extra time). Put the butt in at noon. At 4 pm couldn't figure why the plateu was taking so long..hmmm.. At 6pm still that dreaded 160, at 7pm woohoo hit 170.. What the heck is going on here...

Something clicked then, maybe it was the michelob taking its course.. I looked in my trash (with gloves of course) to find the meat package.. Doh it wasn't 2.59lbs, it was originally $2.59lb, the weight was 6lbs...

Well 8pm now, going to be awhile for that pulled pork... lesson for all drink michelob before checking your weight,,lol............

I did that today also but the other way. I thought I had gotten a 7lbs cuz i did not really look at it. Told the wife do not plan on eating early cuz I am not getting up at 3am on a saturday to start it. i went to rub it last nite and realized it was only a 4lbs. which was perfect cuz i was not feeding anyone but my family and leftovers. I was thinking of cutting it half but i did not need to do that since it was only a 4lbs. It was my first butt (no pix. do not need the razzing from the wife) and it was really good.

Thanks for sharing that with us. I laughed out loud. Not at your misfortune but because I've pulled my share of Homers and could see myself doing the exact same thing.

No biggie, at least it wasn;t the other way around; thinking you had to cook it for 12 hours when it only need 4 lol.

Enjoy it!

Doooh!

Rest assured that you are not the first or only one to do simular things. I just bought a bone in shoulder butt when I swear that I was looking at boneless. Oh well, I thought I was buying a huge chunk of meat at 8lbs, now it looks like the dog may get a good bone to gnaw on
