I used to do a lot of competition cooking back in the day when I lived in Memphis.  I was on the late John Willingham's team for Memphis in May back in the 80's.  Life got in the way and I got away from that other than cooking on my grill in the backyard.  No more competition for me but I am looking to build a nice backyard cooker and from what I have seen on the site so far it looks like there are a lot of good ideas and a lot of help.
