Help me finish this smoker!!

  1. Me and a buddy started this a few years ago and it got put on the back burner. Now I want to finish it up so I can take it to my hunting camp.

    Basically I need hinges and grates and some vents.

    Are you adding a firebox? If so will it be a RF?
     
  3. No fire box just coals/wood in the bottom. Think of it as a grill/smoker something I can load up with charcoal to grill on or put the heat off to the side and smoke.

    Not going to be doing long over night Smokes just cooking while at camp.

  5. My plan is to weld in some 1"x1" angle across the back of the inside and 1 from the front to on each side of the door hole to support the grate. Going to make one big grate to slide inside.

    On the side of the smoker I'm gonna cut a hole and weld up a fiber box that I can slide inside.

    Sounds like you got her worked out. Those hinges should do well for you.

    Nice looking hinges. They should really work well. If you're going to do some smoking, you may want to try a larger exhaust stack. Also, if you decide to change it, you may want to relocate it to the end of the CC.

  8. I was thinking about going with a larger Smoke stack. I also don't like it in the lid, what end should it me on? I was thinking the opposite end from the fire box.

    Yes, on the opposite end from the fire box. It's also good to have it down, just above the lower grate. It will draw the smoke over the meat better, rather than just letting the smoke and heat climb to the top and out the stack. That's my $0.02.
