Joined because I'm in the market for a new smoker.  Living in the Charleston area and I've got about $1k I'm willing to spend.  I mostly cook boston butts and briskets.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, Thomas!  Glad you've joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastimes...grilling, smoking, and curing great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask any time you need help and you'll get plenty!

You can buy a lot of smoker for 1k.  It kinda depends on what kind of rig you're looking for (stick burner, gas, electric, pellet burner, charcoal, etc.) and how you want it to perform.  Lots of pitmasters want to tend to a wood or charcoal fire to keep cooking temps relatively constant (stick burner or charcoal) and think that's the only way to smoke.  Others like to have a pit that's more "set it and forget it" that will maintain a constant cooking temp without much work (gas, electric, pellet).  There are pros and cons to any type of rig, so your first step is to do a little research and make that decision.  Once you know the kind of smoker you're looking for, I'm sure many members would make recommendations about what to buy.

Good luck!
