Hello from Tulsa Ok

Been reading the newsletter for a few months now and reading some items in the forums still trying to decide on what kind of smoker to buy. I thought about one of the Traegar Grills or some other pellet smoker. If you were just starting out again what would you all buy? Look forward to the replies. Guess a bit about myself I am a Certified Pyrotechnician along with working a full time job for a major company. I am married with 1 daughter who loves to help dad with about everything. Things keep pretty busy looking forward to getting into the smoking ring and smelling that smoke.

First off welcome to SMF! It all depends on what you want, how much space, and how much money you got. Do you want to cook with electricity, propane, or charcoal.

I think that charcoal requires more monitoring than electric or propane, but you get better flavor. It all revolves around personal prefrance...

Ditto what crown/coke said. Ya gotta figure what works for you. For me there was never any doubt. It had to be a stick burner. Maybe its the challenge. Maybe Im just a fire bug. It does take a lot of tendin but YUM its worth it. Heck, when I go campin I wont even use a colman stove. Drives my wife crazy.
On the other hand I dont see how you could fail with a smoker that tends itself.

Welcome aboard the SMF Z, glad you found us and decided to stick around!

As was posted earlier, deciding on a smoker is a personal thing... so personally, I would get something that will burn both charcoal and sticks.

That way, you will learn heat and air control, not to mention the art of the thin blue smoke. I'm not a set and forget kinda guy... I need to tend to the fire and truly enjoy trying to maintain the temps.
