Hello, name here is Jeff and I live on the Eastern Shore of VA. I am new to the forum but I have smoked a few things on and off the past few years. I started off with a round charcoal smoker/grill and I now have a Lil Chief smoker that I use for now. I have smoked just about anything I could fit in it: Clams, Oysters, Scallops, Fish, Pork Chops, Chicken Breast, Beef Brisket, Pork & Beef Ribs Venison, Figs, Cheese and I am sure a few more things that I just can't think of at the moment. I have just started to build a smoker out of an old metal cabinet, kind of similar to an old pantry your grandparents had, it is about 6' tall, 24" wide, 24" deep and has 2 doors on the front. I am going to line the inside with oak planks from some pallets I have lying around and I am going to use an electric burner and a cast iron skillet for the wood chips in the bottom. I will also have adjustable shelving inside and I am sure there will be more tweaks as I continue building it. I'll post some pictures as I go.

Welcome aboard, Jeff! Sounds like you've got a good build going on there -- looking forward to some pics.

P.S. Send me a Smithfield ham!!!

Hello and welcome to SMF. I am curious about the oak plank lining. I know smokers can be built from wood especially for cold smoking applications, but I don't really understand the purpose of lining a metal box with wood. Not criticizing, just wondering.
