Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and thank everyone for their wonderful posts. I am located not far from Chattanooga TN and LOVE to cook. I own and run roughly 40 websites from food sites to community sites. I also do photography from time to time, network and computer administration and in my free time I volunteer 40 hours a week as a reserve officer serving my community.

With that said I now have purchased my very first smoker! I originally had a commercial char-broil gas grill but someone decided they liked it better and unbolted it from my front porch during the middle of day and off they went. We recently moved and I needed a new grill but really wanted to try smoking. The end result was an American Gourmet Deluxe (Char-Broil) which came with free accessories for $179 and was in my starting budget range.

I plan on, if all goes well, to smoke two pork butts this week. I look forward to doing many of the mods I have found here and trying some of those tasty sounding finishing sauces, rubs and dipping sauces.

Looking forward to many posts and chatting with everyone in Qland!

Tommy

Thanks! I just finished putting together my American Gourmet Deluxe Smoker! Had a few hiccups along the way but nothing that can't be fixed. Grill racks in SFB were bent badly and paint missing where they were bent. Warming rack (which I am assuming I probably won't be needing?) is bent fairly bad in the middle and the SFB lid hinge had a gap but I don't think it shows once closed. Nothing a quick tac won't fix.

Welcome, Tommy...This is the place to be if you are  new to the smoking experience. There are quite a few "GODS OF SMOKE" here and never forget the Qview pics, " Lest the God's smite thee and cast thee into the Pit of Despair!" Or at least Razz you about it.

Thanks! It's 2:30 in the morning and I can't stop looking at all the awesome threads, which in turn is making me hungry! Looking forward to my first smoke Wednesday! Need to buy a better thermo by then since mine just says ideal :( Can't wait to start making mods for my smoker.

Called Char-broil and my new cooking rack is on the way. Took less than 5min! Off to prep my butts. Pics tomorrow!

Tommy- from a former reserve officer and Military Policeman to a current reserve officer, let me say Welcome to the best Smoking Site on the Web.

One thing that I found out about Char-broil is their customer service is one of the best I've dealt with.

Enjoy the Smoke!

Well the butts are injected, glued and rubbed. I just got back inside from starting the process to season my grill when I realized I am broke out in hives from head to toe! Must be the oil or the oily substance from the smoker maybe? Oh well back to the smoker!

Your prolly just allergic to smoking. Hope u get better and welcome aboard.

I think it was a mixture from the oil and what ever oil based substance was on the grill when I put it together. benadryl fixed the problem :)
