Hello All.....new to smoking and love the forum. Already found some good info. As I posted elsewhere yesterday was gonna be my first smoke. Recieved my smoker friday and was to put it together yesterday. Soooo I'm thinking the stars and planets are aligned. got a new smoker and baby back ribs on sale. It's like god saying atta boy go make some smoke! I open the box and slide out my brandy new GOSM. Saw a small dent on the door no big deal, adds character I think to myself. Slide the plastic bag off and i realize that the thing fell off a truck, at 80, and then tumbled down a cliff!!!! why god, why do you toy with me like this??!?!

Well Bass Pro Shop was great about it. Fedex will dropping off a new one today. ( i shouldn't use the phrase dropping off, should I?) So after 5 weeks of deciding which smoker to buy and at least that long drooling all over pics and recipes on the internet the long and short of it is....... last night's pasta tasted pretty good!

Anyway,

my equipment is a ducane affinity 4300. (has been used almost every night since i got it three weeks ago and my dog loves me for it.)

and my soon to be GOSM.

My location is the Jersey Shore...not THAT jersey shore, their from NY.

What part of the Jersey Shore for I go to Alantic Highlands a few times a year.First off welcome JT to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

Welcome to Your New Addiction

Thanks for the Welcome everyone! As an update I got home from work real late but there was my replacement sitting at the front door. This one has some battle scars but it looks just cosmetic. I put a little olive oil those spots for now and i'll get some paint tomorrow. (got a river on one side of me and the bay on the other. brake rotors start to rust over night when it rains) Got it all together before it got too dark. I did liberate a cooking grate from the damaged unit before I repacked it. It does look much nicer with all the slots filled!!  I did forget to pick up my extra tanks from my buddy's house on my way home. Soooo I be seasoning tomorrow when I get home. Either Saturday or Sunday I have a few friends coming over and i'll be smoking! I'll be doing baby backs and it looks like the 2-2-1 method is pretty dumbproof. I'll try to take some pic's if my alcohol content isn't too high!

@mballi3011.. I'm in Bayville, just south of Toms River across the bay from Seaside.

@bearcarver.. inspect towers eh? your not one of those crazy guys hanging out helicopters working on powerlines are ya?  :)

Glad to know you're now a part of the SMF. You'll be making up for lost time with that GOSM. It's all good my friend.
