Hello everybody my name is Morgan. I am a 23 year old father of two, and love the smoke. I am not going to lie I am fairly new to this, but am ready to jump in head first. My little boy loves it when dad takes him to Gates in Kansas City (45 minutes north) but the drive is to far and who doesnt want to do it themselves. I have a Brinkmann Upright propane that I have used a few times with good resluts. Im not sure if propane is cheating but I seem to keep fairly good temp and have had good luck with it. Hopefully this will be a good place to learn a few tips and tricks to turn my new hobby into a full blown passion like most of you.

Welcome! Glad you are here! I have a smoker that uses both Electric and Propaneso if you're cheating?...I'm Probably Gonna get kicked off of here!

Hi Morgan,

Welcome to SMF.

I live in Kansas City KS so we are almost neighbors. Have you ever gone over to Paola and tried the BBQ at the airport there? It is suposed to be great.

Welcome to the SMF. No need to apologize for your smoker, we all strive to keep even temps. It's all good my friend.

Hey Morgan,

Checking in from an hour west of you in DeSoto Kansas. I like Gates, but I have to be honest, the wait in line and the "Hi, May I help you" shout for your order from 30 feet can get kinda frustrating...that much more incentive to do it yourself! A lot of people use propane or electric, and seem to have good results. If you are like most here, you will eventually have more than one rig in your stable, especially if you stay after it, and turn out some really good 'Que that impresses your family.

Good luck, keep your camera handy to take lots of pics, and ask lots of questions. You will do just fine!

Originally from your area . Well Belton, Cameron, St. Louis, KC. Guess you can say I lived all over the wonderful state of Missouri! Welcome to SMF and remember you can order Gates Sauces on line! LOL

Welcome morgan to SMF. You'll like it here there are alot of good people here to teach you alot of things. Try the 5-day course to start off it will give the basic on smoking then go smoke something. Welcome to the addiction.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have not ried the spot in Paola but have heard good things. I love Oklahoma Joes. But my true favorite as far as meat is concerned is Arthur Bryants original on 18th and Brooklyn, Downtown. The meat is hard to match. Though no one in my family will eat the sauce hardly, it is a good break from the norm. Thanks everyone for the good info and places to start.

Hello neighbor, from Independence, Missouri. Welcome.
My brother just moved to the Ozarks from Harrisonville a couple months ago. He still owns a house there.
